|  In one of my posts written earlier I mentioned that our brain is unlimited. We have it on our own neck and the THING has no limits. I wonder how do you approach to that information? Do you wish to use it at all? Do you wish to use it just a little bit, from time to time, or maybe more often? Well, I can tell what I feel when reading that on my neck there is a tool which is unlimited: I want to use it without limits I want to exploit it each second of my life at it’s fullest capacity and speed. That’s why I do Mind Mapping. Particularly when I read a book and take a notes.
We take a notes to record other people’s thoughts, or content of books, lectures, presentations, which – in fact – is all the time recording other people’s thoughts. Advantages of recording it in Mind Maps are plentiful. It is much easier to see important information and not important staff. It is easier to recognize key motives’ connections. Everything is placed on one page only which you can grasp at one sight. Just imagine that – endless notes of endless book can be compressed into one page. If you use symbols and images more than words – it gets very simple and transparent. The outstanding symbols and images used in the mind map notes give you opportunity to remember better and recall the information later on easily. And – of course – it is very easy to edit the mind map later – add new information, make new connections etc.
To sum up: Mind Map notes is mnemotechnic help to you. You can analyze structure of the information. You get creative with this type of notes – you record other people’s thoughts and of course from time to time you get your own opinion and feedback on the topic. You can record it aside of main notes using different color. This way you can interact with author of the book you study.
How to make a notes when reading a book?
To learn in detail about it I suggest you have to check The Mind Map Book written by Tony Buzan. You will find excellent explanation about taking notes from books there. In other words – learn from the master. To it sum up for you: Read through quickly whole book to get overview of it’s structure. Estimate time you spend studying it. Start new Mind Map about what you already know about the topic. With help of that Mind Map you set up your goals – what you want to learn from the book. Create new Mind Map with your questions. Then look through the book – scan the text, content, main titles, definitions, conclusions, summaries, graphs, illustrations. Then start new Mind Map with it’s central image and main branches. Proceed with further reading of the beginnings and ends of paragraphs and chapters. Put down into Mind Map all you have learned. Proceed with reading remaining text, still you can skip most complicated informations and parts. Add the learned info into your Mind Map. Finally you make revision of the book – read skipped texts, the most complicated concepts. Finish your Mind Map.
Awesome easy, isn’t it? In reality you will need a lot of energy to proceed from beginning to the end, but I can guarantee the result is worthy of the effort.
